High blood glucose (3 of 3)

(yes, that’s a syringe flamethrower kids….pretty sweet, huh?)

So what does it feel like when blood glucose levels get too high?

Pretty sucky.  (I considered leaving it at that…but I’ll describe it in detail)

1.  My arms and legs feel swollen.  Not sure if it’s because of extra pressure in my blood stream or what…but it feels like my arms are hot dogs that have been boiled too long.  (take a minute and visualize that…hot dog arms)

2.  My chest hurts because it feels like my heart is working harder.  Not in the same way low blood sugar feels when my heart beats harder…but it’s working just as hard.

3.  I can’t wait to pee.  It sounds silly…but peeing a lot actually feels better because my kidneys are working like crazy to get rid of all the excess…  And it hurts when I’m processing all the liquids out to get lower blood sugar. (I know that sounds absurd…but it’s true)

4.  I can’t concentrate.  It’s hard to think because you can feel your mind being distracted.  It’s almost like your body knows what’s going on…and it doesn’t want to waste any extra energy on thinking.  Living is a little bit more of a priority.

5.  I can taste weirdness.  It’s a sick, sweet yucky taste in my mouth.  The closest thing I can describe it to is Sterno smell.  I taste it every time my blood glucose levels are too high.  And it’s really distracting….because I think that everyone else can smell the sterno can burning.

High blood glucose levels aren’t as dangerous as lows because you can’t pass out immediately…but they hurt even more if left unchecked.

It’s no fun and you wish you could just go drink a 2 liter bottle of insulin.  Which would be pretty gross…and completely ineffective.
